The silence on the other end is its own kind of terror. Here's a calm escalation plan so you act fast without spiralling.
Step 1 — the likely, harmless explanations (try for a few minutes)
- Phone on silent, charging, misplaced, or out of charge.
- They're napping, bathing, out for a walk, at a neighbour's, or at the temple.
- Network/power outage. Try calling again, try a landline, and try messaging.
Step 2 — widen the net (within 15–30 minutes)
- Call a neighbour, relative, or their carer who can physically check. This is exactly why their numbers should be saved — keep them in the Parent Profile.
- Check any shared location (if you set it up) or smart-device activity.
- Call the building security/society office if there is one.
Step 3 — get eyes on them (if still no contact and you're worried)
- Ask someone nearby to go to the door and knock/check.
- If there's reason to fear a medical emergency and no one can get in, call 112 and explain — they can advise or send help.
- Have your parent's address, age, and known conditions ready to give.
